ABOUT ABOUT

General registration for workshops for 2019 DCF will open February 25 at 10am and will remain open until March 26 at 11:59pm. All workshops are open to the public. However, most workshops are geared toward those with prior experience (ex: current students enrolled in improv classes, graduates of training center programs, or actors).

FRIDAY WORKSHOPS: 3/29, 1-4PM

Knowledge is Power with Kyle Austin | $75
Never be surprised again! We can all use a reminder that knowledge is power and this workshop will focus on knowing everything that's going on in the scene the second it is revealed. Watch your scenes come to life once you realize that you know everything you already need to know and how that leads to discovery, not invention.

Organic Narrative with David Christopher | $90
Getting stuck trying to make honest choices while building a narrative in your improv? Feel like your narrative improv is getting stale? Want to go on journeys as your characters instead of thinking about plot? Organic Narrative is all about making honest character and emotional choices and exploring where they will take you next. With solid beginnings, middles and ends Organic Narrative will get you improvising the greatest stories every told!

This Thing is Broken with Tommy Lee Brown | $75
Is your scene work motherboard broken? Do you just stand around talking? Have you tried every scene work and object work course ever? NOT THIS ONE! This thing is broken. We might not fix it, but we'll put a cast on it and everyone can sign it. By the end of the workshop, if it's still broken at least it will be interesting, if not beautiful.

SATURDAY WORKSHOPS: 3/30, 10AM-1PM

Character Wheel with Jaime Moyer | $100
In this workshop Jaime will work with you on ways to create and sustain characters in the moment. There will also be feedback on scenework and reminders of the basics. Through details and heightening this course will help you play anyone but yourself!

Comedic Auditions with Jodi Collins | $90
This comedy workshop is designed for you to hone in on landing the comedy beats for your auditions and to clarify your overall authenticity & type.  You will select sides from our chosen assortment ahead of the class to  perform them and will be given direct feedback & adjustments while also identifying your personal 'undeniable you' to add that knowledge to your toolbox for facilitating best career choices. Workshop also includes a talkback where Jodi will take your questions to dispell standard industry myths and learn more about what's really going on behind the scenes in order for you to best navigate your trajectory.  We'll also discuss rehearsal technique using improv and more!

Playing Moment to Moment with Ollie Hobson | $90
This class will focus on getting out of your head and into the scene. We will work on discovering and expanding your characters through action and dialogue, while letting each moment in the scene carry over to the next.

Red Light District with David Christopher | $90
Come take a walk on the dark side of town and explore a side of your improv game that you didn't know that you had in you, dramatic improvisation! This workshop will push you to the edge in committing to your choices and connecting with your scene partners, verbally, physically and emotionally. Deep, intense and not for the faint of heart, go all in and take a trip to the Red Light District!

Stage Combat with Ashley H. White | $90
In this workshop, we will cover the basics of staged violence and develop a toolkit for use when staging (and improvising) future scenes. Moves covered will include slaps, punches, chokes and shoves. The class will conclude with staged falls and tips and tricks to falling and fighting safely. We will end with a fun bit of choreography, including a sequence that can be added to anyone's toolbelt for a quick and believable moment of violence onstage. Due to the nature of a physical class, this workshop will move at the pace of the students.
