More than Whoosh Noises: The Lost Art of the Organic Opening
with Chris George
Friday 3/26 3:00pm - 5:30pm
Open to intermediate (Level 3) and up

Organic openings can be powerful, elegant, energetic, eye-catching ways to start your show, generate ideas, and entertain the audience, but they can also feel daunting.  How do we know what to do?  How do we stay focused, moving forward, and not spend 5 minutes yelling over each other (unsuccessfully)? This workshop is especially helpful for performers who are interested in performing a Harold (or other forms with organic openings) or are already doing them and want to get better at opening their shows.  It will also cover how to keep challenging ourselves in new ways during the opening to keep the ideas fresh, innovative, and spontaneous.

Chris George is a graduate of the iO Training Center in Chicago, IL, a founding member of the National Comedy Theater's (NCT) Sunday Company, a part owner of Finest City Improv (FCI), and has been an instructor at NCT, FCI, and Sidestage Improv in San Diego, CA. As the city's first long-form instructor and coach, and he has taught thousands of hours of instruction, and coached and performed in countless improv teams and shows. He writes an improv (and other things) blog, found at 00george.blogspot.com.
